Warburtons Crumpets
In 1870, Ellen and Thomas Warburton opened their grocery shop in Bolton, Lancashire. When there was a downturn in the grocery market in 1876, Ellen Warburton started offering homemade baked goods. Within an hour everything was sold out and "Warburtons the Bakers" was established after two weeks. Today Warburtons is the largest bakery company in England and is still family owned.
Crumpets are thick yeast dough pan cakes that can go straight from the freezer to the toaster until lightly browned. An easy to prepare snack for in between meals, they can be enjoyed simply with butter. You can also make your crumpet with jam, chocolate spread, or savoury toppings.
